Capital’s security plan for Ramazan finalised

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration and Islamabad Police in a meeting on Tuesday finalised the arrangements for security of mosques and Imambargahs in the Federal Capital during Ramazan.

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amer Ali Ahmed presided over the meeting, which was attended by religious scholars belonging to all school of thoughts, Islamabad SSP Tahir Alam Khan, SSP Traffic Dr Moeen Masood, Deputy Director Auqaf Asim Ayub, assistant commissioners and magistrates.

Islamabad in National Women Football semis

Five-goal Mejzgaan Orakzai showed goal-scoring prowess as Islamabad moved into the semi-final of the sixth National Women’s Football Championship on Sunday night here at Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex.
They thrashed Khyber PK 12-0 in the first quarter-final. Later on, in the second quarter-final, 2007 national champions Sports Sciences eliminated Karachi’s Diya Club 2-0 with two first-half goals.

Tainting Islamabad airport

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has neglected President Asif Ali Zardari’s instructions regarding accusation of land located nearby New Islamabad International Airport (NIIA). This will be a unique example since passengers will have to use the land of another province to reach airport of the federal capital.

Besides, CDA has failed to implement a ban, announced by itself earlier, on encroachments and construction of residential and commercial buildings.

Pakistan did not oppose US-India deal

President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in Islamabad Sunday morning at the conclusion of a five day visit to China during which he held talks with President Hu Jintao, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, Chairman of the Chinese Peoples Consultative Conference (CPPCC), visited Pakistan and China pavilions at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, addressed separately forums on the Economic Development and Alternate Energy and touched base with the provincial political leaders and leaders of the corporate sector.

Syed Salahuddin addresses rally in Islamabad

Accusing Indian forces for killings of civilians and human rights violations, Kashmiri leaders of political and jihadi backgrounds held a protest rally in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The rally was addressed by Syed Salahuddin, commander of the Muttahida Jihad council and other leaders of Hurriyat conference and Jamat-i-Islami. The participants of the rally were holding placards and banners and raised anti-India slogans.

Pakistan to release prisoners

PAKISTAN is to release 17 Indian prisoners on the eve of talks with New Delhi as part of moves towards reviving peace efforts, officials in Islamabad said on Tuesday.

The Indians would be released on Wednesday at the Wagah border crossing near the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore, the foreign ministry said.

US plans audit office in Islamabad to monitor aid

The Obama administration would set up a separate auditing office in Islamabad to monitor financial assistance provided to Pakistan, diplomatic sources told Dawn.

The office will monitor all assistance programmes under the Kerry-Lugar-Berman Bill, the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) and the Pakistan Counter-Insurgency Capability Fund (PCCF). The office will report to the Office of Inspector General in Washington and would employ two auditors, programme analysts and the local staff recruited in Islamabad. The Obama administration has set up a similar office for Afghanistan as well.

Protest in Islamabad against Israeli attack

ISLAMABAD: Political leaders and the journalists held a protest against the Israeli attack on the Gaza-bound aid ship Monday.
